01 Tires
Store tires upright on a rack or stacked on a shelf, off the floor. Keep them clean and dry and away from heat sources, direct sun and electric motors. Mounted tires are often stored stacked, loose tires upright.
Mark each tire’s position before you remove it.
02 Wheels
Wheels with tires mounted can be stacked, with a protective layer between them. Bare wheels are best stored flat on a shelf, lightly cleaned and coated. A rack keeps the weight off the floor and saves space.
Keep lug nuts and the key in a labeled bag.
03 Fluids
Store oils, coolants and cleaners in their original, labeled containers, tightly closed, on a lipped shelf or tray to catch drips. Keep them away from heat and out of reach of children, and store flammables as instructed by the label and local rules.
Dispose of used fluids through local hazardous waste programs.
04 Safety basics
Keep a fire extinguisher accessible, and a spill kit with absorbent near the fluid shelf. Avoid storing fuel near ignition sources such as water heaters. Ventilate the garage when working with chemicals.
A coated floor makes spills easier to clean.
