01 Door styles
Flat slab doors are modern and simple, easy to wipe clean. Framed doors add a traditional line. Glass or frosted doors look light and show contents, and mesh or louvered doors let air in for gear that needs to dry.
Soft-close hinges reduce slamming and add a quality feel.
02 Finishes
Powder coat on steel and aluminum is hard and scratch resistant, available in many colors and textures. Laminate and thermofoil give wood-grain and solid color options. Polymer is color-through and moisture proof.
Gloss shows fingerprints and swirls, while satin or matte hides them.
03 Handles and hardware
Handles are the jewelry of the cabinet. Long bar pulls look sleek, edge pulls look clean and recessed pulls prevent snagging. Black, brushed steel and brass tones each change the mood.
Pick handles you can grip with gloves on if you work with tools.
04 Building a palette
Choose a main color for the cabinets, then match or contrast the floor and wall. Graphite with a charcoal flake floor feels sleek. White cabinets with a gray floor feel bright. A bold red or blue works best when the rest is calm.
The Garage Design Studio lets you test these combinations before you decide.
? Common questions
What color hides dirt best?
Mid-tone grays and graphite hide dust and fingerprints better than white or black.
Do glass doors work in a garage?
Yes, for display cabinets. Frosted or textured glass hides clutter while letting in light.
Can I change door colors later?
Some systems allow replacement doors, and powder coat can be refinished. Ask before you buy.
